Who Needs a Florida Background Check?

Understanding the ORI (Originating Agency Identifier)

The ORI, or Originating Agency Identifier, is a unique code assigned to applicants by the requesting agency. This code is essential, as it specifies the reason for your background check and directs the FDLE on where to send the results.

When you submit your fingerprints electronically through Florida Live Scan, the background check is generally completed within three business days. To schedule a Florida Live Scan appointment, you must first obtain the ORI number from the relevant agency.

Deciphering the TCN (Transaction Control Number)

The TCN, or Transaction Control Number, is a unique identifier used to track the status of your fingerprint submission within the Florida system.

To check your submission status using the TCN, you can visit FDLE's TCN Lookup. Alternatively, you may contact FDLE directly at 850-410-8109. When contacting FDLE, be sure to provide the date of your fingerprinting and your TCN number.
